Strong Women

I recently watched a seminar on Steps to becoming a Strong Woman and I took notes and I just loved it.

It came from a blog post I happened to come across with my favorite quote,

“Be you, Bravely”.

BeYouBravelyMOPS

Upon reading this blog post they talked about their MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group and how they had put on a Momcon {Mom Conference} in Louisville, KY.

Although I didn’t attend the conference, I was able to find the videos from the conference and watch them.

They were SO inspiring and beneficial to my life.

So, I will be going through them, posting them here, and writing about what I’ve learned…

my thoughts, what my take away is, and how it influences me.

Here’s a short video of MOPS and discussing the BE YOU, BRAVELY theme.

Steps of a Strong Woman

1. Relentlessly Eliminate Poison

Like when coal miners brought canaries down with them and whenever the canary would stop singing, that’s when the workers would know that they have to get out.

Think of it this way, we’re the coal miners (having relationships), but we have to remember that we bring this sensitive side with us (our soul).

Some women recognize this right away, and understand that they MUST keep their canary singing.

Strong women say GOODBYE to the toxic relationships, because they know that the great thing about being a grown up is that you don’t have to have friends you don’t like.

And that’s hard because we’re taught to “be nice”.

BUT nice & kind are 2 totally different things.

“Nice” is passive and it’s people pleasing.,

but “Kind” is active, it’s peacemaking.

Part 2

Our 2 jobs:

Follow our Dreams & Serve our Brothers and Sisters,

BUT we make up another reason.

That things have to be perfect before we’ll do the next thing.

But that’s just an excuse, a cop out.

We’re all imperfect and that’s HOW we’re supposed to be.

We all just need to show up as we are, and stop acting.

Part 3

Make it a point to spend time in the quiet every. single. day.

Strong women make this a practice.

Wisdom is always speaking to us,

but it doesn’t yell.

We need to be quiet to hear it.

*I do this all the time, and it really helps me to focus, regroup, and gain inspiration*

Real growth happens in the stillness.

Part 4

Insecure women mask their insecurity by tearing other women down.

Wise women mask their insecurity by rising women up.

Part 5

Don’t place too much emphasis on your roles;

wife, mother, career woman.

What happens if he leaves?

When your kids go to college?

When the company folds?

We are all a train and these roles are just stops along the way.

We need to keep going on.

Carson McIntyre

This is Carson McIntyre.

He is an almost 13 year old boy with Duchenne.

I had the pleasure of meeting his mom Kori at the last PPMD conference.

She is phenomenal, a complete powerhouse warrior DMD mom, and last year she wrote this and I have wanting to share it.

Also, Carson is having an upcoming birthday and is requesting birthday cards! Check out the bottom of the post for his address.

Happy Birthday Carson!

Just getting home from a long day at Shriners.

For the most part Carson is doing well, his spine is straight, he has amazing strength, however, we had to set up an appointment to get fitted for both a manual chair and an electric chair.

The stages of this damn disease is taking its toll on my precious boy.

To see the fear in his face and the river of tears coming from his eyes is heart breaking.

He doesn’t want a wheelchair he says.

For now we will continue with a manual chair that is fit to him.

He really needs it to help with his posture while sitting.

The muscles in his back are weak and because of that he has a lot of pressure on his lungs.

This explains why he has a hard time breathing.

Dr. Kerr said that we show our strength through tears and she is amazed at our strength together as a family.

We all cried!

Carson is doing very for his age, but there is a noticeable decline in his ability. He won’t give up!

He is the most amazing human being I have ever met!

Trying to explain to a 12 year old that these wheelchair’s will give him great independence is very difficult.

I just want him to be comfortable at all times. As a mother it is harder than hell to watch your baby struggle especially with the little things we all take for granted.

Please keep praying for my angel! Thank you for all your love and support.

We don’t know what we would do if you all weren’t a part of this battle. Together we can cure DMD!

We will give Carson a chance to live a long life.

He deserves nothing less.

Carson is having a birthday and Kori has requested for anyone to send him cards!

It would really brighten his day!
